Description

Photograph taken using monochrome film stock in the days before colour film became available, and the negative more recently scanned into the computer for manipulation in Painter 11. It was a dull day hence my desire to enhance the image. The castle was built during the reign of Edward I (construction started in the year 1283). It is possibly the most impressive of a chain of castles built to retain control of North Wales. It was besieged three times and overrun on the first occasion due to a then weakness in the defences – this apart from its surrender to the Parliamentary forces during the Civil War. Edward’s son (Edward II) was born there. This photograph is intended as an explanatory addition to yesterday’s uploaded fractal image, but if anyone wishes to see a really, excellent series of photographs and accompanying explanatory text, please go to: http://www.castlewales.com/caernarf.html Cliff.
