Description
Still on an architectural theme, on the way to the U-bahn from the Kunsthaus Vienna, spotted this nice combination of buildings plus an old bridge over the River Wein complete with tram!
On the left the Urania, designed by Art Nouveau architect Max Fabiani, opened in 1910 by Franz Joseph I of Austria as an educational centre and public observatory - it is still used as such.
Behind, on the opposite bank of the Donaukanal is the Uniqa tower built 2001-2004 by Heinz Neumann, the first building in Austria to receive the Green Building Certificate of the EU. At night it's glass frontage is turned into a light installation with changing coloured images created by over 160,000 LEDs - sadly I didn't get chance to see that, good excuse for another trip to Vienna!

Nice color combinations between the tram and the buildings. And between old (Urania) and new (Uniqa tower) architecture. Great composition. Dana

Great work! The difference in the architecturial style is outstanding and works well (I know other examples who are only ugly). The tram came along at the right moment. Very interesting!
