Do you remember several months ago when I went to Lopez Island with a bunch of my girlfriends? I've still got photos to show you from that trip! (And more from MooseRidge, and more from the Trifecta ... it just never ends!)
The foundation for this church was laid in 1887, and the building was completed in 1889. And yes, for those of you in far off lands, this is a wooden building and a wooden fence. We have big trees here, so that's what we build with. :)
I never knew that was unusual until I showed this picture to a friend from another country who was totally blown away that I was showing him a photograph of a building that was made of wood!
The ensuing conversation was quite fascinating, I assure you. Having friends in other parts of the world can be an expanding experience, and that was one of them! :)

Great shot! I never even thought about the fact that we have so much wood around to use like this! Of course, I've been in places where the closest to wood they had was the veneer on the desk.... Great shot!

The fact that it is made of wood actually screams out to those who still dabble in the arts of wood. I enjoy the art of the building and wonder only at the missing post cap nearest the viewer. Nice shot!

I love the little chapels like this. We have them dotting the country side here and there. Ours are wooden too. This was a big lumber area. Great shot.

You've got me counting on all my fingers to check the age. Agree 100% with the wonderful monochromatic effect and composition. My parents moved to Maine in 1970 to dodge the crowds in NY. There are entire towns and villages of wooden houses built in the late 1700s and early 1800s there. Of course being a carpenter or a painter is a lucrative trade in Maine. My father was both and worked full tilt maintaining those old structures until age 85. It is obvious someone has kept this old church in great shape too.

Wood looks so cool, except here in the UK it tends, with our wet weather, to rot, so that lovely church, would be gone in a short time indeed... Only English Oaks seemed to last! And they would be gone in a very short time indeed if we just used them... I love wooded building and thats a beauty indeed... Thanks... Rob
