Description

These two boys were trying to remove the stone plate from the hole on the quay at Vaiare, Moorea. Watching them while waiting for the ferry it brought back memories of my chilhood in Germany. We were dressed like this also, except we wore no flip-flops. We were running around barefoot from March-April until September, weather permitting. We had no TV, no radio, and no store-bought toys, but we were never bored. We depended on each other for entertainment and used the seasons to provide useable resources. I am sure that the numerous older women, widows from WWII, that lurked behind their curtains watching us every day, often asked themselves the same question, 'Up to no Good?' Many times they reported our misdeeds to our parents along with the complaints. Thinking back now, my parents were pretty cool. They normally knew the complainant, analysed past experiences with them, considered the fresh complaint, gave us the appropriated counselling, and the next day we were back out there doing either the same or similar deeds. The trick we learned from the complaints, stay out of sight of the spies, if possible. Those were the times, never bored, and lean and mean. No fast food. This picture was taken on 14 August 2009. Thank you for viewing, commenting, and favs, Sig...

Sig I looked just like these boys at that age and I too would have been up to No Good. Corn Mush was a treat and not near as lean as you were in Germany at the time. We had to make our own entertainment and life was as good as we made it.! Nice shot and once again taking advantage of being at the right place at the right time. Well Done

My childhood was much the same as far as the playing with friends without all the creature comforts. I often marvel at today's youth who complain (house full of toys, games, computers, tvs, etc) how bored they are with nothing to do. We always found fun things to do. Maybe in having things you lose something. :O)

You have caught these two red handed and I guess they had a reason to do it. As you say, 'boys will be boys'. Lovely capture.
