Description

Captured 5/25/09, at the beautiful Los Angeles National Cemetery in beautiful West Los Angeles, California. More than 86,000 veterans, going back to the Civil War, are interred there. A ZOOM is strongly recommended. Photo #2 shows a soldier explaining to the uninitiated the expense and labor involved in maintaining the cannon; #3 depicts an old sergeant standing alongside a caisson/ammunition box; #5 shows Confederate recruiters on hand to sign up volunteers to the cause. The South shall rise again. Still ain't finished yet with these Civil War shots. Toodles, and tallyho.

Always a challenge shooting under the white sky conditions; you did well keeping the color in your shots. It would be interesting to get inside the mind of these people and hear what their mindset is about the whole reenactment thing...

Great shots! The soldier in photo#2 seems to have a proprietary hand on that cannon. And I don't think I'd want to tell the guy in photo#3 that I needed more ammo. Very interesting photos!

I saw one of these cannons featured on Antiques Road Show a week ago. Real cannons of this vintage are worth $30,000-$40,000!!!

Wouldn't it be funny if that guy with the camera had a Canon Camera ? okay, the little things amuse me ! Great collage Harry.

more humor along with the seriousness, more photojournalistic touches. (And lol at Melinda/mbz2662 about a Canon camera...) (And is Bill right---those canons run for 30 to 40k per? This ceremony has to cost a lot of money, not to mention demand big insurance!) Anyway, thanks for explaining to us what these people are doing, and #3 & 4 are fine because the guy seems very serious and he's surrounded by little model canons which make great visual counterpoint...and in #4, he's with a younger person, a nice contrast. And the 5th? I can't make it out, but your angle makes it look like the guy on the right is mouthing a paper bag, like his hands are full and he needs to open the bag with his teeth. Don't know if that's at all what's happening, but it's a great capture. Honestly, it looks like that's his bagged lunch, and he's sitting down to a nice hot meal of cannonballs and some bullets. Lots of human moments here. A fine collection!
