Description

Captured 5/25/09, at the beautiful Los Angeles National Cemetery in beautiful West Los Angeles, California. More than 86,000 veterans, going back to the Civil War, are interred there. A ZOOM is strongly recommended. Happy Labor/Labour Day everyone! Bet you thought I was all finished with the Memorial Day photos. Sorry, several more in my voluminous folders to come. I assume the photos above are self explanatory: American Civil War; a formally -- or flamboyantly -- attired Union soldier, apparently a NCO, awaiting orders to fire; the bottom shot looking down the bore of a cannon. Now that Bill/bmac62 is back among us again, and well on his way to complete recovery, I can begin posting my always welcome shoot-em-up military stuff again. Ta-ta, and tallyho.

Another good collage Harry. When we think no more in your ceremonial bag, you pull out something interesting again. Love the cannon.

Manning the big guns is not something I can even begin to relate to; but I suppose it was a necessity at other times in history. Nice shots from this celebration!

Gee whiz Harry, I can't add a thing to what you've described above. Five fine photos and a well done collage. The color of this artilleryman's coat almost threw me...sort of half gray, half blue. Big head scratch. These reenactors go all out for autheticity, so it must be right:)

glad these are back again...and you have to know, there's humor in this alongside the serious intent (the Civil War is serious no matter when or how it's portrayed). You captured the artilleryman in different poses of waiting, boredom and reaching out to someone else. And, turning from 1 to 2, we get to see that this cannon is facing a full-modern walkway with people in modern attire & caps, etc. I love that your first shot doesn't show that, and then you bring us right back to the 21st C. That's photojournalist stuff. And the bottom shot—which is dead serious—is actually a bit of a visual joke too, if only because after watching this artilleryman wait around for instructions, we are suddenly face to face with the mouth of a cannon, as if to say, "shape up, this is serious business!" Fine montage, subtle humor, and the red on that outfit is a knockout.
