Description
With all the recent superb pictures of Gaudí buildings in Barcelona, I thought I'd upload some views of a couple of views of his buildings in León.
This is Casa Botines in the middle of León (built 1891-93) it was commissioned by Simón Fernández and Mariano Andrés, León textile merchants who bought fabrics from Count Eusebi Güell, Gaudí's friend and patron.
The result is a modernist building with a Medieval-neo-Gothic look - he created a moat around two of the façades (just like he did later with the Sagrada Familia).
All business activity was carried out on the ground floor while the upper floors were reserved for residences.
In 1929, the savings bank of León, Caja España, bought the building. During restoration work in 1950, workers discovered a tube of lead under the sculpture over the main door, inside were the original plans signed by Gaudí and some press clippings!
The thumbnail is a bronze statue of Gaudí on a bench sketching the building, with a pigeon watching - I had to wait quite a while to find him on his own, he's a very popular chap, Gaudi I mean not the pigeon!
Had to wait even longer to get the view of him on his bench with the building behind and an empty square!!
Cheers
Moz.

Such a cool looking building. Love the roof line and windows. The turret going all the way to the first floor is genius. Near the street level but far enough away for security. Nice looking thumbnail. Dana
