Description
Still in the province of León, Spain, this is the Palacio Episcopal (Bishop's Palace) at Astorga.
Designed by Gaudi, it was built to replace its predecessor which was destroyed by fire in 1887.
Unfortunately, Gaudi's radical design and the horrendous costs involved in building it resulted in it never being used - it took 20 years to complete (1883-1913). It now houses a unique collection of artefacts devoted to the history of Astorga. The town was once a strategic point on the Roman route to Andalusia, where they controlled the gold traffic from their mines at nearby Las Medulas.
I had trouble getting this shot, had to hide behind a tree to mask the sun - didn't have this trouble in the misty mountains!!

Beautiful building. Doesn't look anything like the church in Barcelona!
