A work in progress! Hi! My name is Melinda. I am happily married to the love of my life and we have a daughter who is in college. I live in Southern California and I am an amateur photographer. My husband bought me my Kodak P880 for Christmas in 2006. I looked at it and thought I'd never figure it out! I've only taken regular every day snapshots and never looked through the lens in a "creative" way. Then in March 2007 someone introduced me to Renderosity.  In May, I became brave and decided to upload my first photo... I haven't been able to put my camera down since! LOL. I still have a lot to learn, but I sure am having fun doing it. I have come a long way though. This time last year, I couldn't even put a photo on the computer! Now I have started to research DSLR cameras ... Who knows what the future brings! Update: I now have that DSLR :) Was the best Christmas (2008) gift!   I did the research and picked it out and Santa put it under the tree. It's a Canon Rebel Xsi .

I have a new DSLR, the Canon 7OD. A gift from my husband for Mother's Day. So much to explore!

Loved your story and it reminded me of a time a praying mantis was in our hallway, not sure how it got in the house, but omg I had never seen one with its wings spread, freaked me out, the thing was what 2 inches or more high but to me it looked HUGE and I was at a loss of what do I do now. then I was in hesterics that I was so scared of this tiny little creature.. Love the expression here on the squirrel like he is really sizing up that feeder... they are very tricky little guys we have them all around the yard, they like to dig up this one certain flower pot I have they leave the rest alone... not sure the logic to that. LOL have a great night.

Well, Mantises (or whatever the plural is supposed to be) may in fact be an advance alien scouting party or something. For such a small critter, they do fairly well, and you even named the one you tried to take a picture of! Me, I keep the card in the camera at all times (especially since I can only use the USB connection on my computer - no card reader); not sure if that's wise or not, but it keeps me from losing the only card I have and from doing what you'e just described for us.

Wonderful stories on both the image and about the missing SD card. I have done that a time or two myself. I have met up with a few amazing looking Mantises. They are some fabulous critters. A wonderful shot of this cute critter!

Wow!

Stellar capture of the opportunistic rodent eyeing the potential repast, Melinda, and a big LOL in re the missing memory card! I don't know, my LCD screen lets me know in big bright letters when there is no card in the camera.

I have no idea why, but squirrels always tend to remind me of Alfred Hitchock when they look like this...standing on their hind legs...which is funny, because Alfred Hitchcock did not look like a squirrel by any stretch of the imagination! Oh well...Maybe it's just that squirrels fit the theme song to "Alfred Hitchcock Presents." At any rate, this is a wonderful photo and a story that I can sympathize with. I won't tell you how many shots I've missed because of similar oversights in terms of whether or not my camera was "armed."
