Description

This image, or at least one like it has been in my mind for literally years now. Probably inspired by a couple of NASA's space colony concepts of the 70's, definitely by Ben Bova's novel 'Colony', and obviously to an extent by Greg Bear's 'Eon and Clarke's 'Rama' series! At any rate, after getting the newest version of Cinema 4D, with render instances, and speeded up sub poly displacent, I did a couple of tests with large amounts of trees, and then started to put this idea to the test. All modeled and rendered in Cinema 4D, apart from the addition of the little girl (my daughter) in Photoshop, as well as post render colour tweaks etc. Cheers Adam

Very very nice! I've never read Bova's "Colony" but I have read his novels, "Saturn" and "Titan" which are set in a similar O'Niel Cylinder (though I believe it used length-wise window stripes for sunlight)

Hah! I've also tried and failed to do this style in Bryce... This is fantastic, and I would really like to see a tutorial in maybe 3DArtist or 3D World. Nice one Adam!

The image speaks for itself, masterfully created and presented. You have done a wonderful job of showing what a O'Neill style cylinder colony may look like. Excellent balance of space and distance. Very impressive in all respects! Well done my friend, David

My friend, this is without doubt THE BEST sci-fi image I have had the pleasure to view yet on this (or any other) site!! This is a fantastically composed image with so much wonderful detail and, of course, the incredible pov!! I love how you included your sweet child in your artwork. Even in silhouette, it is obvious she is a precious soul. Thank you for this amazing and fun image. I had that book when I was young: NASA sent it to me after I had written them a letter. I was fascinated by the images and concept then and love how you have brought those ideas to such marvelous life here ...

Excellent work! I'm working as well on a my version of a cylindrical, orbital O'Neill's habitat of the kind so this is a welcome addition and inspiration ! Five stars from me & keep up the good work!

Wicked cool look and design for crafts as well as the Grand Perspective of it!! It reminds me of a novel I read some years back where this expedition discovers a city like this in an asteroid if I'm remembering correctly!
