Description

A giant banyan tree growing over the "Pink Path" on Useppa island. It somehow survived Hurricane Charlie in 2004, when the direct hit from that storm leveled most of the island's vegetation and residences. Useppa is a private island that only club members and guests are allowed to visit. We had the opportunity to take a day trip there because the owner of the B&B we were staying at on Pine Island has a membership. It's a testament to hard work (and a lot of money) that this small island is once again looking so lush and manicured just five years later. http://www.useppa.com/ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hurricane_Charley

The growth of the trunks are incredible, just like the giant strangler fig trees we have here in the sub-tropical rain forest on the Gold Coast....kool ! Yeah and you could never tell this place was hit by the hurricane ! ~Cheers~

Banyan trees are really amazing to look at. The first ones I ever saw were at Edison's Home in Ft. Meyers when I was a kid.. been fascinated by them ever since. The IR really makes it on this shot. Great stuff as always Kort!

Another magnificent IR concept from the prolific mind of Kort. I instantly thought of Paul Bunyan when I read the title. The names Banyan and Bunyan are very similar and they are both big.

Amazing. Those tree trunks look like someone was hired to sand them all down until smooth. They mesh and intertwine beautifully, almost like grid work. Reminds me a bit of a colander or a sponge, allowing the wind/water to float through.
