Hi, I'm Marilyn. Ă‚Â I've been posting here on RR for a few years now and thought it was time to update my profile. Ă‚Â It's been wonderful learning so much from the amazingly talented people here. Ă‚Â I've had the chance to meet many in person and some have become great and good friends. Ă‚Â Starting with a Kodak Brownie camera when I was about 7 or 8, moving up to Instamatics, Polaroids, then the Pentax K1000 that really got me on the way, I've been looking at the world thru a lens for a long time. Ă‚Â Got the bug honestly; my dad was a photographer and gave me the gene!! Ă‚Â Digital changed the world and I jumped in with both feet. Ă‚Â You would've gone thru 100's of rolls of film in one day the way we can shoot and delete all day long. Ă‚Â Progess...it can be awesome sometimes.
At any rate, RR rocks, the talent is over the top and I'm just gonna keep on shooting!!
Thanks for looking and keep those cameras rollin'!!
peace.....marilyn

It looks like you're all having a great time, too bad you couldn't get a friendly local (lol) to 'take' your camera to let you get into the shot. I'm envious, I love traveling and meeting people.

You know what's cool about this shot? It's a total city night shot, and pure Chicago. It's right off of the Loop & right by the Near North (where you stayed), kind of that vast no-man's land that big cities get in areas between the 'famous' sections...and you got the brick & concrete & confluence of buildings & signs—it almost looks like you took it in an alley, even though you didn't. And you got that strange city light that makes everything glow in eerie yellows: A true night-city shot, just what it looked like. And it's a great shot of Chip & Corey & Tara (I won't comment on myself 'cause I don't know how to look at myself!). And a great memory because we were on our way to Reza's, after deciding that most of the places around us were too expensive and probably not very good...And leave it to Chip to pick the perfect spot for all of us, our fellow world traveler. And btw, that light on my bald spot has been used to guide planes. (I get a stipend for that...) I was so glad this was one of your first shots, just regret you weren't in it...

Hmmmmm...I think I know these people. They look like the're having a good time, and course, they were. Very nice Chicago-at-night portrait of the gang , that I wish you were in as well. Unfortunately, if you were actually in the picture there wouldn't be one. I really hate logic sometimes. Wonderful shot. I'd watch out for that person on the right with all the hair, he's kind of strange.

I am such a goof! I thought I commented on this. I've seen it enough times. I saw it ON your camera! And I didn't comment. Sometimes I think I'd forget my own head if it wasn't attached. I won't even tell you how many times I flubbed something today alone. Okay, enough of that! WOW! This shot is incredibly cool for many reasons. Technically it's a good, solid Chicago shot...unpretentious and full of life as "Da Mayer" likes to constantly remind people whenever he has a chance to speak about this city. (You have to say "da mayer" with that nasal, Chicago accent that.) That night came back to me as I saw this again, and wondered where my comment was before realizing that just maybe I didn't post what I was thinking! Hmmm...funny how that works. I love seeing this part of the gang...in a weird way, you're IN this picture, just not visible...you were too busy actually seeing it and capturing it, so even though you're invisible, I can at least see how tall and scruffy I am. (One of my online handles was ScruffMuffin, a long time ago...way back in the 20th Century.) This is a wonderful shot...very "camera verite" or however you spell it. French isn't my strong point, and I've probably chosen the wrong French phrase, but that's not surprising. At any rate, this is an amazing photograph, so full of life and feeling, and that's what makes it pop. Wow!!!
