Description

This is the view coming into Chicago from the airport. My first glimpse of how huge this city really is! This is a shot from the passenger seat of the shuttle van, and only shows about a third of the skyline. We're having a ball! ps ... I'm working on a laptop, something I never do, so I don't really know how this looks, quality wise! I think it could be better, but hey ... once in a while it just has to be about SHOWING you something, not about the quality of the photograph.

Welcome to the midwest. Wait until you get to the lakeshore, the skyline views are spectacular. And check out the "Bean" there are some great shots there also.

Hey, that's my building:-) I've never seen it from this angle. As you probably know, this is you approaching "the Loop" going in a southerly direction. I think you are on the Dan Ryan Expressway. Weather looks CAVU (pilot lingo for Ceiling And Visibility Unlimited)...with just a bit of haze. Waahoo...glad you made it safe and sound.

Yep - it is amazing and perhaps a bit overwhelming... well for a farm girl like me it might be. Glad to hear you're having a blast. Thanks for the view!

WOW! Funny, I live in this city and yeah, I have to say that whenever I see the skyline from the highway, it looks impressive. It just goes on forever! And it's got some new buildings too, which just makes it a wee bit more colorful, which you've caught perfectly here! The POV is great as well, and even if this is a low sneak factor shot, it's a goodie.

When I saw this Friday morning at home (waiting for Marilyn to call & say "come on over, we're ready"), I thought: 'Damn! How in the world did she get such a clear shot from a moving van! And from inside the thing, on top of it!' A great place to shoot from—that is, your position along the highway—because you got the broad spread of downtown. (So you know: You were in downtown at the hotel, but only generally: I mean, compared to the suburbs, you were downtown. But 'actual' downtown is the Loop—the area across from Millennium Park or the Art Institute, etc. Whereas your hotel was Near North, sometimes called the Gold Coast. In fact, this picture is just the "back door" to the Loop: It's only its outskirts. It's a whole city in there...) Nice clarity in the cars, I like the play of lamps & buildings, and it's a view I've seen a million times but to see it through your eye is great. The quality is fine Tara, it's a fine shot of the approach to a huge city...And notice how the cars are riding 'up' to the buildings---that's a slope in the expressway. (That's a hill to us. Yeah yeah, shuddup: We get nosebleeds from that. In winter? We need oxygen. If we climb 10 feet, we write home saying "if I don't make it back, say goodbye to the kids..." Have mercy on us Midwesterners...) Wonderful shot. It was amazing to find this on my computer the second morning I awoke...

Looks great to me also and you are 100% correct - "once in a while it just has to be about showing you something and not about the quality of the photograph". When are you guys coming to south Florida??????? Dana
