Description

Try to imagine this lighted cowboy sign WITHOUT the imposing, rectangular campground sign below it and tell me what era you think it is from. Personally, I am not sure. I do know that the motel cabins were still standing as if untouched since the year the were last rented. It was like staying in a ghost town or walking onto an old movie set. This was in Dayton, Wyoming. The rest of the town was just about in the same time warp. I expected to see the door to the holodeck at every turn. Thanks for the view.

Holodeck...time warp? Someone's been watching Star Trek, no doubt. Well, I was going to say the sign was from the 1950s or so until I read Cable TV on it, and now all bets are off. But a Dump Station? What the heck is that? Another term for a rest room? Actually, whenever I think of a motel, the Bates Motel comes instantly to mind. Anyway, a nice sharp image of the erstwhile sign, Jodie!

I think this sign is from the late 1930s or early 1940s. Looks a lot like the style of many of the motel signs we had in my hometown (Tucson) when I was a kid growing up there. :~)

Yes, I'd guess the 1940s sometime judging from the cowboy as well as the typeface. Your sepia really seems to suspend the time element in this shot.... It could have been snapped anytime between here and there :o)

Yes, I agree with Harry, the 50's came to mind immediately but could have been triggered by the mood and tone of the pic alone, not based on facts.

If it wasn't for the cable tv thing, I'd think this was really OLD. Maybe, 1940-something? I can almost see Humphrey Bogart stepping out of the shadows...or should that be Roy Rogers (and Trigger)? Very cool. I like this a lot. Is it actually from...the 1980s?

I think that cartoon cowboy came from the forties...I always love a good time warp. If I'm right, those cabins were well worn when Lucy and Desi first hitched up their long, long trailer.
