Description

Bryce 6.1/Daz Studio/Photoshop The art of Roger Dean has inspired me for a long time, his cover art for rock bands such as Yes and Pink Floyd among my favourite images. His fantastical worlds of floating rocks and sculpted, gnarly trees inspired this image of the mystical lands of the dragon...a world halfway between solid ground and the heavens. Millenium Dragon, poseable bonsai and black walnut tree are from Daz3D(posed in DazStudio),all other items were created in Bryce using preset textures(some tweaked). The floating islands are three grouped terrains, one for the lower half and two for the upper. These were flattened, and one was rendered in a foliage preset. The bushes are foliage textured in a vegetation preset. The low clouds are two spheres rendered in a tweaked cloud volumetric.Distant mountains are rendered in a jungle preset.Sky,atmo and lighting are custom.Rendered in Premium.Postwork includes a levels adjustment, cloning of some edges, additional vegetation detailing, birds and signature. Thanks for viewing and any comments!

Very nice! Great concept, love those images too. Excellent use of terrains and the dragon. Only nits would be that the distant floating rocks look a little too regular, and the rock texture looks wet - if that's the effect you're looking for, then it's not a nit, I guess...

Great tribute to a great artist! I immediately thought of RD when the picture opened and before I read your commentary - he's been a very strong influence on me since I saw his first album covers in the 60's (when I was but a pup...)
