Description

Dear friends, one good and two bad news today: Today it was the Marathon day in Berlin, one of the million-people events here - the marathon with the best times ever, because there are no hills here. The good news at first: This here is HAILE GEBRSELASSIE, the Berlin hero from Ethiopia, the quickliest man on earth! Today he won the Berlin Marathon again, it is his 4th victory (you read right: his FOURTH Victory)in a row!!! The bad news: Mr. Gebrselassie is not only the fastest of all, he broke the world record three times in a row here in Berlin, and his wish was to do it again this year. But he failed.... He reached 2 hours 6 minutes, his own world record is 2h 3m..... Sorry, but: This guy runs faster as I could do the whole 42 Kilometers with my bike! What a great sportsman, a hero! The second bad news: This pic here is only a REPOST from 2008, sorry, because I am not in Berlin for this weekend. But I stood in tune with this great sports event in Berlin, of course, and Mr. Gebrselassie had shown such a great performance that it is a must-be to show him again here..... So this pic again: Haile Gebrselassie is the man with the yellow dress in the middle of his helpers - he won today again for the 4th time.... Thanks for your interest and for your comments for my older pics. billcody, Berlin

That is awesome! I thought he would either be an Ethiopian or a Kenyan. Great shot!

@Rainfeather: Yes, he is an Ethiopian. But: He makes us great compliments about the city, the Marathon course and the spirit of the 1 million visitors. This creates a very special inspiring atmosphere, he says. I cannot decide if he`s saying the truth, but we all like compliments, and he have made a lot... He is beloved by many people meanwhile, and if our mayor calls him as an "honored citizen of Berlin", the most of us will agree. Two years ago, as I did my first marathon shots, I´ve never heard his name, but the crowd of cameramen on bikes who surrounded him and his group catched my interest soon, and later I found the winner at one of my pics. In 2008 I was there only to catch him. Very interesting are the so called "handicaped" people like handbikers or wheelchair drivers. They are great.
