Description

We have a rescue for Large Munsterlanders, today we have had an exemption show to raise funds. Just took Jasmine for the day out. This little girl, Wicker, took my eye as soon as I saw her arrive at 9.45 in the morning, she was with her elderly gentleman owner & his son. She was so excited & couldn't wait to get inside the hall, had a little excited bark, (she reminded me of Carla 'B', bit impatient) All the day I couldn't take my eyes off her, there were loads of dogs there (these shows have a lot of followers & is as important to the owners as Championship & Open shows are to us.) Wickers classes were in the afternoon, I asked her owner if I could take a pic of her, he was so proud of his girl, he told me she had been in the local paper as she had saved his sons life, while out walking her he had had an epilectic fit & Wicker had licked his face but couldn't rouse him, so she had gone to a neighbours house & barked to get their attention, they then had alerted the owner who went to his sons aid. He told me she was 11 and retiring from the exemtion shows at this one. He told me she had won 200+ rosettes & numerous cups. Also he said just after he got Wicker his wife had died & she helped him through & was his constant companion. Now that is what living with an animal is all about, I go to shows & LOADS (not ALL) of dog OWNERS (not lovers) have got their animals for one thing only, what they can get out of them. Wicker won more rosettes at her retirement show & ended up reserve best in show in the novelty entry. WELL DONE TO WICKER & HER PROUD OWNER, HAPPY RETIREMENT. (sorry to go on but she struck a cord)

She is a remarkable dog. How could you not go on about her. If you wouldn't have we would have not know that the dog is not only his family member, but a true hero also. She deserved to retire in style congrats to Wicker.

I'm sure her person would be so proud to see this tribute to his lovely and gracious lady. What a wonderful thing she did for his son, animals are far from stupid and I hate it when people say "It's just an animal" (dog/cat etc). thank you for telling us her story and she deserves every rosette she won!

Oh Barb, I do love stories like this one! And what a beautiful girl she is, too! Would you call her coloring brindle? She's just gorgeous! I hope they are still all healthy and happy. From seeing your photos, and reading your notes, I suspect you are one of those show dog owners who who spoils and loves their dogs from the minute they come into your home until years and years after they are gone. If I get to choose who I want to be in my next life, I'll be either a dog or cat in YOUR house, grins.
