Description

Trustworthy Class Deep Space Tugs are one of the most capable Human starship classes serving in the Deep Space Exploration Group. While somewhat slower than the mission-specific Deep Space Explorers and Deep Space Scouts, Trustworthy Class vessels can be configured to a larger variety of missions via the plethora of module types they can use. They can tow any Human starship currently in Deep Space Exploration Group service. The versatility of the Trustworthy Class vessels has lead to them being more numerous than any class of Deep Space Explorer and most classes of Deep Space Scouts. Like their Courageous Class cousins, they are not capable of landing on planetary surfaces but do carry a modest shuttlecraft complement. Trustworthy Class starships have more internal space devoted to cargo bays than Courageous Class vessels and thus carry smaller crews. While the Trustworthy Class tows many sizes of modules, there are two standard sizes that are most common: a 25 meter diameter by 100 meters long module and a 50 meter diameter by 200 meters long module.

I like it, but I worry about the Dark Matter weapons. They would be effective against a very massive enemy and potentially require enormous power to create the effects. You might try a virtual singularity device. It would create a tiny area of perfect vacuum space in which energy would accumulate from outside our dimention and then become virtual particles with enough mass to create a tiny singularity. It would evaporate within moments, but might tear through a ship while doing so. The energy to create would be lower too as your using zero point (n=0) energy "quantum vacuum space" to do it. If only these ideas could be easily made real. =) Nice picture though. (5)

Cool. Now, if they can't land, are the cargo modules self-propelled or are the shuttles really big?

Good questions Lotus253 and Geirla! Dark Matter Weapon: I took this weapon out of advanced weaponry section of the "D20 Future" RPG Reference Manual. They called it a "Blacklaser" and described it as a fluorescent gaseous form of dark matter that fires as a purplish colored beam. I used it because I liked the idea of a purple beam and wanted something more exotic sounding than "phaser beam". Cargo Module Propulsion: The era of the Deep Space Exploration Group universe that my ships are in is quite advanced, with technology comparable to that of Star Trek: The Next Generation. I would guess that some specialized DSEG cargo modules would have minimal sublight propulsion systems. Most DSEG cargo modules would have gravity resist units allowing then to be guided by relatively small shuttles to and from planetary surfaces.

Very nice design. I always like to see "workhorse" star ship designs. People usually skimp on the work ship details but go gaga over where every nut and bolt of the warships are. A well thought-out tug or cargo ship makes for a richer universe.
