Description
They get large by the first of October in Tulsa. This one is 2.4 inch long (head and body). Was about to take down my solar dehydration device when I saw him/her near the hook eye under the eaves.
The image is inverted. Had a devil of a time shooting this - hook is about 7.5 feet up, and he/she's not much to focus on. The lighting, of course stinks. No photo edit save to invert and re-size.
He/she is climbing down a plank I leaned against the solar device as I upload this image.
Happy trails, Mantis.

awesome capture- I love the way they turn their heads and look at you - and you caught that moment I have one that I captured this summer on my artist page. I was really surprised to see it's red markings in the photo: http://www.renderosity.com/homepage.php?userid=580115

Thanks for the kind comments. Yes, they do turn that triangular head to look at you. Manticor's hot link link To enable hot links in text or reply, try hot_link Dick

Unique Dick. Green head looking our way is very interesting...eyes are mighty difficult to see but they must be there. Excellent capture.

Fascinating creatures.

Sounds like a difficult shot. It is a great capture of a mantis. I wonder how he would do with a foil? ;)
