Description

Had to return to Massachusetts for a funeral. Lost six days of RR – so the plan is to catch up on my comments. This is the Eastern Point Lighthouse, Gloucester, MA on a foggy morning. The station was established in 1832. The current lighthouse tower was built in 1890 and automated in 1985. It was constructed with brick with a tower height of 36 feet. The height of focal plane is 57 feet. The original optic was a Fourth order Fresnel 1857 and the current optic is DCB-24, flashing white every five seconds. Other buildings still standing: 1879 keeper's house, 1894 oil house, 1947 garage and 1951 fog signal building. It is designated as an active U.S. Coast Guard aid to navigation. The granite breakwater, about a quarter mile long, protects the harbor from North Atlantic storms and the structure on the end is a fog horn. This is where I was born and lived there most of my life. Thanks for stopping by, taking a peak and for all your previous comments and favs. Dana

Have you ever seen the movie "Perfect Storm"? ...I believe it was made in that area ..loosely based on the swordfisherman who did at sea during a hurricane...it's very interesting.
