Description

JMW Turner (18th century artist, deceased) once sat on the prow of a ferry crossing the English Channel in a storm and, oblivious to his companions' seasickness, painted what he saw in watercolours. Don't know how he kept the paper from getting soggy. Last Sunday I found myself in the same situation and attempted this from memory. It was a wild day and the sky was all shades of purple, pink and green, with the sun cutting through the clouds but failing to illuminate the turbulent, dark green sea. It's done in Vue with Mystkel sploshy bits and a lot of underpainting in PS. Whether or not this will show on other monitors I don't know, but I hope you like it. Turner would have been scathing!

If you were in that, that must have been very scary, glad you made it out. One thing good came out of it, this beautiful picture. Fantastic post work and atmosphere too. Very well done.

Ah!.. Who's challenging who? I would not know where to begin to craft such a vision as this. Beautifully impressive, Mark! Hard to discern this from a photograph of the scene. & Strong as the swells may be, they seem to invite us out into their embrace, the way you have portrayed them. Thinking about Turner .. don't all of his paintings give a sense of being wet? or, at least, bathed in a sparkling luminescence of surflight. It's a real pleasure to view this. Thank you! Terry

Perhaps Turner's paper did get wet and it is where he developed his soft wet look that he is known for. Very nice image. You're very good at doing oceans and figures. - Bob
