Description

Good evening! My wife was in the mood to do some tryouts with photoshop, and this is the result, a little bit oldstyle, when pictures had a white frame and were pinned into an album..... Pic shows parts of the Oban harbour and the busy little main street with all their nice little tourist traps. In the middle the famous Oban Whisky Destillery, founded in 1794 by the brothers John and Hugh Stevenson. They produce a classic malt whiskey till today. And they have a visitor`s center! Above the McCraigh tower, an open rondell on top of the hill, built by the Oban banker John Stewart McCraigh in 1897. This was situated to give workless workers a job in the winter months, when most of them were unemployed. The building was never finished, till 1905 many members of the family died or were too poor. Today there is a park inside and a platform with viewing point for tourists. Thanks for your interest and for your comments, the y are welcome every time. I hope you enjoy this. I was happy about your comments for my oder pics. Thanks. bc, Berlin

Your wife made a wonderful choice in the sepia tones. They fit this scene so well. I'm curious, where is the water? Do the boats just sit there on the ground until the tide comes in? This is a fantastic shot of another time and place.

Lovely image! Seems like a most beautiful place, but rather curious as to the water's whereabouts :) Makes for a unique scene! Lovely sepia tones indeed!

Friends, thanks for your comments. That feels good every time! And you are right, there is no water in the harbour, I didn ´t notice till now! I remembering a very strong smell at the POV now, maybe it drugged my a little bit, when we explored this little jewel - a salt shock or something...

I've been a dozen of times to Oban, on my way to Mull... It's a superb photo, Wolfgang but I would have wiped out the rectangular background to keep only the indented edge of this photo. Excellent work!

I like the old fashioned PC effect. oban is a great place to sail from for the islandws. Perhaps another magical region for you to visit. I've enjoyed your record of journeying in Scotland. Lovely work and brought back many memories! thank you for that
