Hi, I'm Marilyn. Â I've been posting here on RR for a few years now and thought it was time to update my profile. Â It's been wonderful learning so much from the amazingly talented people here. Â I've had the chance to meet many in person and some have become great and good friends. Â Starting with a Kodak Brownie camera when I was about 7 or 8, moving up to Instamatics, Polaroids, then the Pentax K1000 that really got me on the way, I've been looking at the world thru a lens for a long time. Â Got the bug honestly; my dad was a photographer and gave me the gene!! Â Digital changed the world and I jumped in with both feet. Â You would've gone thru 100's of rolls of film in one day the way we can shoot and delete all day long. Â Progess...it can be awesome sometimes.
At any rate, RR rocks, the talent is over the top and I'm just gonna keep on shooting!!
Thanks for looking and keep those cameras rollin'!!
peace.....marilyn

Holy Cow....... sorry had to look behind me to see if he was coming. That's a lot of fire escapes. Love the geometry of it.

Glad I don't live that high up... They say not to live above the 6th floor. That is where the fire ladder stops.. Nicely captured. Aloha

Now this is really a view not seen by most. Great shot. Fire escapes have saved hundreds of lives but I also must admit thinking...some few people made a lot of money in every city when fire escapes were mandated.

I had the same thoughts as bmac62, lol. Of course I've never been on one... Nice capture. Aloha

As a kid, walking through downtown Cleveland with my dad, I thrilled to the sight of the old fire escapes. I could image having to crawl out on one and make my way down with fire licking at my fingers and toes. There aren't many left-at least not where I live now. Love this mess-o-steps.

This is awesome. I can imagine this working really well in black and white too. It would look great blown up on my wall!

I hope there isn't a fire - you'd get lost in that lot! Great shot and pov.

You did a great job at showing this amazing scene! Nothing like it out here, huh? Well done.

I agree, it's very difficult to get a full-on shot of one of these endlessly long Chicago monsters! Thankfully I've never had to avail myself of one of these most visible reactions to the Great Fire of 1871, but the thought of having to do so inspires vertigo. I've found the only way to fit MOST of one into a shot is to lay flat on the ground below and shoot upward. A great shot that captures the oftten maze-like shapes and patterns of the big city.

These are really hard critters to photograph, and what makes them different than most critters is that they stand still! But they're like Cicadas, there are so many of them it becomes confusing. This shot works really well. It looks so urban, so crisp and clean. I love the complex geometry of it. Fantastic job!
