Description
York Mill built in 1880
Sgt. Alvin C. York State Historic Park is a state park in Pall Mall, in the U.S. state of Tennessee. Situated along the Wolf River, the park contains the farm and gristmill once owned by decorated World War I soldier Alvin C. York (1887-1964), who lived in the Pall Mall area for most of his life. Along with the millhouse and milldam, the park includes York's two-story house, York's general store and post office, the Wolf River Cemetery (where York and his family are buried), the Wolf River Methodist Church, the York Bible Institute, an M247 Sergeant York tank, and various picnic facilities.
Alvin York is one of the most celebrated soldiers in American history. He joined the pacifist Church of Christ in Christian Union in 1914, and when drafted for service in World War I in 1917, he applied for conscientious objector status, but was denied. On October 8, 1918, while on patrol along the Meuse-Argonne Front in France, York and his platoon wandered behind enemy lines and were caught in an ambush that left over half the platoon dead. York then led the handful of survivors in a counterattack that resulted in the capture of 132 German soldiers. York was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor and became an instant celebrity, and upon his return to the United States he was barraged with offers for endorsements (both commercial and political), movies, and books, most of which he initially rejected, believing it was wrong to profit from an act of war. The Nashville Rotary Club raised the funds to buy York his Pall Mall farm, which it presented to York in 1922. After York's death, his widow sold the farm to the state of Tennessee.
Located on U.S. Highway 127,in Pall Mall, TN, quite a fun drive, I found an old car graveyard there, and have posted a couple pictures of that in my gallery I will post another one tomorrow there is also an old General store built in the early 1900's with an original soda fountain any many other treasures out on this highway If you are ever out that way. It is also the area where they hold a yard sale which has been called the Worlds largest yard sale, starting in Alabama, it runs through Georgia, Tennessee, Kentucky and ends in Ohio. Below is some information on that.
Travel more than 650-miles of scenic beauty and see tons of yard sales. Get started on your journey by traveling the 93- mile Lookout Mountain Parkway route from Gadsden, Alabama to Chattanooga, Tennessee for the most "scenic rural America" in the United States. Alabama has more than 1,000 yard sale vendors alone! You will find everything from antiques, collectibles, furniture, dishware's, fresh garden produce, homemade jams and jellies, food vendors, live entertainment and so much more. Continue with the yard sale, following the U.S. 127 Corridor from Chattanooga, TN to West Unity, OH for another 550 miles of yard sale bargains. When combined, the Lookout Mountain Parkway and the 127 Corridor have had as many as 5,000 vendors lined along the scenic yard sale route in past.

Wow awesome shot indeed! I love old mills. Would you be so kind to grant me permission to use it from an artistic point of view for my xp logon screen??? I'm not located close enough to get my own shots of these wonderful mills. I went out hiking for a shot at an old water generating plant. But due to the fact I'm still sore in the legs from going down that gorge to photograph a water fall I was unable to do the hicking and climbing I needed to get the shot. Its a restricted place and well not sure how I would even get permission to get close to take pictures.

What a capture. Yet the house I'd be scare of it. Looks sorta precarious. Yet I know what they're like that due to rises in the rivers. Great job.
