Description

This tonal and monochrome drawing completed on CP 140 lb watercolor paper is one of my rare Graphite drawings (I have very little time to draw). The Orchid drawn is one of the exotic varieties of the Blue Cattleya. The drawing was completed with a Derwent Graphite 24 9H to 9B pencil set. The delicate pencil lines get lost in the smudging of tones, a "no-no" for the pencil purest, but my favorite way to "paint" with pencil.

Thats lovely! I'm a mad orchid enthusiast and hats an excellent Cattleya! In response to "koosievantutte"s comment, you can also get graphite powder. Perfect for 'pencil painting'!! Hopey44(sadly now 47)

Oh my ... this is wonderful! I love the way you've used your pencils, purists be damned! Gorgeous work ... it absolutely glows, and that's not a quality I generally associate with pencil work! Spectacular.

Your realism is always spectacular to me. Wonderful tonal work. I wish you had more time to draw, Jan. You really capture all the fine nuances of the tonal changes. It is as though I can feel the variations to touch. A true pleasure to view.

lovely orchids! I too find little time to enjoy the good old fashioned pencil... feeling the itch to bust out the art supplies

Incredible and for someone who works in graphite on occasion I do love seeing when a picture is smudged, it surely does give it that painterly feel. Excellent work and use of light...
