Your having a real battle: God Rays vs Remnant smoke. The result is a series of large X's across your canvas. If you're screening your smoke on and leaving it at that then there is nothing to distinguish it from the sunlight. If you could create a darker "core" smoke texture that would represent where the smoke was more dense and not letting as much light through. Just a thought.
