Description

This is Her Majesty's Royal Palace and Fortress, more commonly known as the Tower of London and historically as “The Tower”. It is a located in central London and located on the north bank of the River Thames. It is the oldest building used by the British government. The Crown Jewels of the United Kingdom are displayed in this complex. My “Change of the Guard” posting, is at the entrance to the Jewel House. The center building is the “White Tower” built by William the Conqueror in 1078. In the 1190s, King Richard the Lionheart (reigned 1189-99) enclosed the White Tower, with a curtain wall and had a moat dug around it, filled with water from the Thames. My recent “Tower Bridge” posting was taken from the river walls of this fortress. Most information from Wikipedia. Photo taken May 1995 and scanned. The superstition goes that if the tower ever loses its Ravens it will mean the end of London.

Yep thats the tower, where many a good person was waiting to be beheaded. I certainly wouldn't have liked to live in King Henry V111's reign!!!! Great pic Dana.
