Description

This is one of the Orangutans from Busch Gardens. I don’t remember her name. She was a curious about us as we were about her. Orangutan – Pongo The Orangutans are endangered species of apes. They are native to Indonesia and Malaysia and are currently found only in the rainforests of Borneo and Sumatra They have longer arms then great apes and their hair not fur is typically reddish-brown. Their average stance is about 4 to 5ft and weigh between 73 to 180 lbs. Their favorite food is fruit, insects, and honey, but they will eat bark as a last resort. Like the other great apes, Orangutans are remarkably intelligent. It was not until the mid-1990s that one population of Orangutans was found to use feeding tools regularly. Their habitat is being destroyed by logging, mining, and wild fires. I found them to be most interesting and thought I would share with you. I am also thinking way warmer weather because it was snowing up here today…..it’s way to early for snow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Have a really great night. Peace and Love, Cheri

A little less hair and that could be me, doing my morning exercise routine, in the pool. Great capture. Dana

WOW!!! At first I thought perhaps you got a shot of Ryan hanging by the pool, he has red hair, but not really quite that much.....well not yet anyway! These are so neat to just watch, most everything they do, every move they make is slow and so graceful. I'm kind of glad they made it impossible to get in there with them, would've made for a great kiss shot, but then on the other hand, I could also have been abducted and now be living my life at the Busch Gardens as some Orangutans love slave. Sweet shot baby, I almost forgot about these, and now I'm wondering what else you have from that trip.

It never occured to me that these critters swim. I'd assumed they were pretty much tree dwellers. Thanks for reminding me that I do learn something every day : ) Great shot and info. : )

"I never met a simian I didn't like" (a remark from the movie, Planet of the Apes). Terrific POV, clarity, colors and clarity in this shot of the orangutan, Cheri, apparently in a ninja crouch, and preparing to leap over the rocky barrier.
