Description
While visiting MacKenzie State Park I wandered over to a picnic area next to a small stream. Humans, being what they are, were amusing themselves by throwing bread to the seagulls and watching them fight over the crumbs. As I turned away from this scene I saw a little sandpiper quietly wading in the stream, picking at the sandy bottom. While her cousins humiliated themselves with their antics, she went her own way and seemed to be finding all she needed.
I tell this story because, in thirty years working for Corporate America, I sacrificed my intelligence and dignity so I could fight for crumbs. Perhaps it is time I went my own way.
