Description

Bryce 6.1/Photoshop This was a scene that almost became extinct. It started as a desertscape, but wasn't working. As a last resort I changed the terrain textures to a snowy mountain range and it took on a new life! There are four terrains, all customized presets and rendered in the same snowy mountain preset texture. The ship model was created in Bryce from prims, and a customized texture using two photos from cgtextures.com was used. The sky, atmo and lighting are all custom.I couldn't get the sunlight to work the way I wanted,so I decided to put what I'd learnt with radial lights in my last few images into practice and create my own sunlight.Five radial lights with the same intensity and falloff, and at the same height above the mountaintops, were scattered around the top of the mountain range to simulate sunlight breaking through cloud cover.I then disabled the sunlight and the "link sunlight to view"setting, leaving the radial lights as the only light source in the scene. The image was rendered in Premium with soft shadows selected.A minor levels adjustment and signature were added in Photoshop. Thanks for taking the time to view, and any comments you wish to leave!

Wow, what a scenic view you have created here, Neil. That snow texture in the foreground is awesome work and the play of light and shadows really adds the suspense to want to explore this strange world.

I had to laugh because I often end up going from snowy to desert or rocky. Nice atmosphere to this one.
