Description

Hi! Thanks for looking in... you might want to click the full size view on this one. I'm just sayin'.... I think these landscape images now officially qualify as a 'series.' I countinue to be astounded at the capabilites of Vue as a landscape generator. I know, "duh that's what it's for, silly!" But still, one can get some gorgeous terrain out of this software. Vue8i render - two procedural terrain objects. I'm using the terrain fractal combined with the new recursion filter for a little bit of erosive layering. These are entirely precedual - no sculpting, just working with the values of the terrain fractal function. Rock materials are from Chipp Walter's excellent Terra Pak, snow is a tweaked version of the Vue 8 snow material layer. These were setup as a layered material with the snow lying on the flat areas adn a little bit of orientation bias. There are two meta cloud objects in here as well, pretty much standard, but with the ambiance tuned all the way down. Lighting atmosphere and terrain fractal techniques inspired by material from the Quadspinner tutorials available at Cornucopia 3D, but at this point I've digested them and am doing my own thing with the ideas presented. Still, these tutorials are recommended highly. The image was rendered at 1920x720 with the quality on the global radiosity lighting and atmospherics cranked and the render quality at 'broadcast.' Render time was 16 hours. I did a little bit of a levels adjustment in Photoshop and added the title and copyright information in. As always; many, many thanks to those who take the time to offer critique or drop a quick comment, I read and appreciate them all.

Fantastic landscape! I know folks think that you just turn on Vue and you get a good looking landscape, but I know that you have to put in some work to come up with the quality that you're turning out in your images. Really nice job!
