Description

This picture of Tara was taken a month ago while she was visiting Chicago with the rest of our extended ninja tribe on that celebrated Saturday of yore. In fact, this image was captured mere minutes after my previous post. Tara was leaning against the breakwall of Lake Michigan on the man-made peninsula of the Museum Campus when I took this shot on September 19, 2009.

Hey, I know this lovely lady! WOW! You're posting...I guess the south side decided to release one of its claws. I love this shot. It captures that day perfectly, and it's one of the last sunny days in Chicago too...That was a great weekend and this is a great picture. Well done.

You know what? It's been a month, and still ... I look at this and think, "OMG!! I was in CHICAGO!!!" :D That was such a magical weekend, such a gorgeous day. I remember this moment ... you and I were taking pictures of each other, and I have a series of images of you, camera up, with the planetarium behind you. How amazing, to see myself through your eyes, and against that fabulous backdrop! Then I look at this again, with the eyes of a stranger somehow, and think "Wow ... that lady is looking at you like she really likes you!" (She does, too.) :)

I've been absent from the galleries for months; tonight I'm leaving one comment per artist, so I can say Happy New Year to everyone and tell them that I've not forgotten that they're here. There are so many shots I could pick of yours Corey, but I picked this because you captured a person & soul so wonderfully & truthfully, so I decided to speak to this. You got Tara & her all encompassing gentleness; and her tilt of the head acknowledges how fine it is to see you, pure and simple. She looks like she's accepting everyone in her path without a second thought. (And of course she's wearing the clothes she made herself & holding her famous camera. Well famous to those of us who know her work!) She's centered, but your usual photographic sense has given us a big sweep around her, the railing sweeping diagonally into the distance & curving to meet the horizon. (Counterpoint of railing & the Loop.) And she's met, behind, with the Sears Tower---well, the Willets Tower, or whatever it's called. And the tower's blues match her blue outfit; and the railing comes right into the corner of the shot, etc. Small details, but Corey you're just so good & intuitive at this, you always have these harmonies in your shots. Your gallery is filled with complex detail, massings of details, etc, but they all work together so casually & so naturally. You're so good at what you do. I wish you a wonderful New Year, and a healthy & inspiring one too. And after the 1st, I'll be back here more often. You're a terrific artist. This portrait is but one example, and boy did you capture something deep in Tara!
