My corporeal form lives with my wonderful wife and six eccentric cats in beautiful Sedgefield, but my dreaming body is frequently elsewhere, exploring the fractal universe and marveling at nature's chaos. I love traveling to places that exist only as mathematical constructs on my computer and bringing back snapshots that sometimes remind me of the real world (whatever that means), sometimes of metamagical worlds we can visit only in our imaginations. I trained as a biologist and run a small company specialising in science publishing - writing, editing, illustrating and typesetting. For 3D world building I use Vue, Daz Studio and Poser, but I've also used Bryce since version 2 and done some work with Terragen, Carrara and Groboto. For technical illustration I use mainly Illustrator and Photoshop.
Thanks for visiting my little corner of Renderosity, and to everyone who has kindly commented on my images or added my works as a favourite, thank you for that too. Craig.

miss the sparkling on the water, but I like the atmosphere, Great render! RS

It's very beautiful but I agree with the other comment, it does need some sparkles on the water, especially where the sun strikes it. Try some PS brushes they should do the trick very nicely.

Beautiful one, but the water is slightly to calm for so much peebles and stones! Excellent WIP!

I'm loving the color, lighting, and atmosphere and the variations in size and layering in the pebbles and rocks. Is this meant to be a dry bed or one with water flowing through it? I agree the water if it's meant to be there needs to be more obvious. I am loving what I see so far. An original and exciting Vue scene.

Certainly worth improving. Has a lot going for it. Like others, I agree that almost all the light/shadow play if over on the right. So the stream on the left badly needs light and contrast.

Nice work so far Craig - couple of suggestions: a little more undergrowth beneath the trees, looks a little bare under there. Secondly, if your water object is a plane try changing it for a cube or adding a cube immediately beneath the plane - you can then experiment with volumetric materials on the cube to simulate the light attenuation and increased murkiness with depth that you'll find in real water. Vue does great water in the distance but getting closeup water looking convincing takes a bit more tweaking. HTH wzrd

Your lighting is most intriguing in this piece. I get the feeling that this is day time but the lighting moves me more to night time. Marvelous work. I can't wait to see what you add to this piece.

well I like it so far... it has a warmth and yet a touch of desolation

Nicely done...I think what it's missing is a little surface reflection on the water surface...not sure how Vue does this, but in Bryce I would try adding a radial light with low falloff above the water surface in the area hit by sunlight to give it a glint...don't know if that helps?Great scene and composition my friend!

Thomas Kincaid has nothing on you although Bob Ross' bushes might be slightly happier... Lovin' the pebbles.
