Description

First a little perspective. The coyote Buttes set the background. Note the background atop the mesa, you can spot the formation in part IV’s post. Just a piece of part V can be seen under the formation here in the right foreground. Yes, I gave him a name, sticking with the sea theme titles; his unofficial name is “The Coastal Watcher”. ;~) Maybe I should not assume your being able to see him; “The Wave” is just under his chin, just above the chin is a shadow pronouncing a mouth. Then a bit of a deformed nose and above that a slit of a shadow for the eye. Following back along the eye I see the outline of an ear with a little slit of shadow showing an inner ear. The sandstone cap of the formation being some kind of head dress or hat. Under the sandstone cap there is a swath of darker smoother sandstone almost appearing to be a wave of hair. This formation was a lot of fun, like naming cloud formations in the sky. It was even more fun because of my being so absorbed into the panorama and jockeying for POV shooting said panorama. That I almost did not notice it, first standing between the formations and then for the next ten minutes or so while I clicked, clicked, and clicked. LOL One more part of “In and along the Way”, then on to the “piece de resistance”. Thanks so much for the wonderful comments on this series that began July 26th and thanks to all that have clicked that favorite button, but most of all thanks for trekking along. :~)

I have not lost the will to see this for myself - your photos have fueled that desire. This contast in rock surfaces is so interesting and so well defined.

It does look like an indian head. My first name for him was "Cheif Sandstone". Decided the indian names were to cliche.
