Description

A third ruin in the same area. This is the back side, of this 900 year old building and it is impressive as to where and why it was built here, on this spot. It was built against and on, a rock outcropping, for a solid foundation and to eliminate the need for a wall on that side of thr rock. The large rock formation was much more stable than building on sand. The rock mass also acted as a passive solar heating system. Heat from the sun, absorbed during the day, helped warm the rooms at night. Al Gore would have been so proud. Info based on National Park Service materials. Scanned from a photo taken in 1996. Thanks for stopping by, taking a peak and for all your previous comments and favs. Dana

J'aime beaucoup ce cliché non seulement son côté esthétique, mais également l'hommage qui est rendu à ce peuple dit Amérindien

Your description made me think of "Second Fig" by Edna St. Vincent Millay, but since this is a far cry from ugly, it doesn't really apply. ("Safe upon the solid rock the ugly houses stand: Come and see my shining palace built upon the sand!") Beautiful images, all three! I like the contrast in this one between the angular shapes of the building and the curved shapes of the rocks and hollows in the ruin. Excellent capture!
