Description

Last spring a friend and I went up Highway 9, just goofing around and stopping wherever we felt like stopping. I took loads of pictures, and posted several of them at the time, but of course there are some still in the archives! This farm is near the end of a beautiful valley, which you can see HERE if you'd like. For purposes of orientation, if you look at both pictures, the farm is to the right (at the south end) of the valley. I liked the contrast in styles between the old barn and the new, with the house tucked in behind. The more industrial building up on the hill is a mystery to me ... I didn't go out there and ask them what it was!

It is a nice contrast. you should send this to the owners and see if they will fix up the old building, or at least repaint it! Very nice photo!

I like this quite a lot. I've always been an admirer of old buildings, the way time and the elements ravage (or at least transfigure) them...and this image captures that perfectly. It's very calming, very comforting, and it's something I'd love to see for myself. You give such a tantalizing glimpse. Super work! Wonderful, rustic mood!

Foto molto intressante perche' mostra evidenti modi diversi di costruire. Photos intressant much because shows obvious ways to build.

What a beautiful setting but those barns are huge! I wonder what they have on the upper floors? A wonderful shot.

Those barns are huge! I do like the contrast, the older one more appealing to me. Cheers, Clive

I had a boyfriend in the Navy who was on the USS Skagit. Now I know where it comes from. This is a great contrast--and a wonderfully beautiful scene!!

Lushootseed Skagit means "to hide away". See I looked it up:) This is indeed quite a contrast but between the old and the new as it pertains to the two largest barns. Interesting how much alike they are. Thanks for a taste of the valley where the first settlers made their home in Washington state. Everything is always SO GREEN...but there's plenty of moisture for that!

I love looking at old barns so I am realy enjoying this picture. Skagit Valley is such a beautiful area, especially during the Tulip Festival. My daughter used to live up there so I've seen it many times.

Farming is hard. You have to up before the crack of dawn to milk those cows and then feed them. Before you go to school. I had a friend whose parents owned a dairy farm. I used to spend the night a lot and get up to help. This is a great shot.

Both beautiful images! Wonderful layered effect here. I love photos where the background is a hazy continuation of the land rather than sky. Excellent capture!

Great shot Tara. I like those barns too, the building up on the hill kind of seems out of place!
