Description

Craig Breedlove has quite a ride after setting the land speed record on October 15, 1964. He drove 513.33 mph one way, 539.89 mph back for the timed average of 526.28 mph. THEN TROUBLE. The drag chutes tore loose, and the brakes, which were intended to slow the car when it was going 150 mph, burnt out. The car then snapped off a telephone pole, went through a 1/4 mile of shallow water, hit an 8-foot-tall dirt dike, went airborne, and then landed in a body of water 18 feet deep. Breedlove survived unharmed and swam ashore. Bill:) Note: this is the car that Buffalo1 is standing in front: Click Here VIDEO OF THE 1964 RECORD RUN and FOLLOW-ON SEASON IN 1965. THESE ARE SUPER... 1. 1964 Record 526 mph 2. 1965 Attempts

Great shot Bill, this has to be one of the best looking record cars ever built. See Craig Breedloves record run to 526mph on Youtube at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GbjeYqshR_k&feature=related and relive one of the most exiting times in Land Speed Record breaking history. Phil

Stellar collage of the whiz vehicle, Bill, along with the bone chilling narrative of its drastic demise. At least it's back and in one piece again. Glad to read that Mr Breedlove was unhurt and lived to tell the tale.

Like we discussed on the thread last night Bill - not the ideal vehicle to go to the grocery store with! LOL... I can get across the Atlantic for a quick visit to the US almost without a bathroom stop though... Hehehe..

I LOVE THIS CAR! Craig is the man! When he was found exhausted on the lakshire after the crash, he told the first rescuer, "For my next number, I will light myself on fire." Great pics, Bill, and the videos are way cool! (The Arfons also fall into the "real man" category.)
