Description

Long ago, in the land of Oshkosh, lived two elves. The elves grew magic milkweed. The blossoms from these magic milkweed brought forth pods. Each pod had unborn fairies. When the the pods broke open the new fairies where born. There fluffy puffs that helped them take flight then dried. Once they dried there puffs carried them to their new homes, some far, far away. Once in their new homes the local fairies who where awaiting their arrival threw a great celebration. At this celebration they were given two things, a name and their new wings. Our milkweed pods finally broke open today. Calling them fairies came from the same place calling the dandelion seed puffs came from, my grandmother, when I was small. If you caught one you could make a wish, but it would only come true if you released the fairy so they could get to their new home. I have been so busy will everything happening lately. Sorry for my absence. Tomorrow I am running the galleries. I have 4 days at least to go back. I love you all, have a great night. Peace and love to you all. Cheri

I love the idea...but I have to admit that I was always a bit leery of eating lima beans as a child, because they looked a bit like embryos...never mind the fact that I loved the taste of lima beans, as I do now...there was just something atavistically "wrong" with eating something that, to me, resembled the embryo of an elf/fairy/or other such being. THIS brought back those memories, because your fairy fluff from milkweed is a lot more warm and friendly than lima-bean-embryos; there's just more poetry in the image...and in terms of the literal image here...WOW! I like this immensely. The details are amazing! I love the light...and the strands of fluff are just so perfectly-caught. And speaking of milkweed...I was without my camera, but I saw something I was not expecting. Mites or something were feeding on a milkweed stalk, only they were yellow, and looked a bit like kernels of deformed corn. They had black legs, like those not-too-smart red aphids, but they were so tightly packed together. I thought of THOSE as I saw this, because I wonder if you've seen them. Anyway, I'm rambling on and so I'm going to shut up. Hopefully things continue to go well and you get to stop running around and actually have a chance to relax!

So silky! Beautiful shot and story! Do they look like the fairies in Fantasia when they fly away?

Last time we were at the Hollow, the milk weed pods hadn't opened. I was a bit surprised. This past Monday we were there for the day, and Hurrah!! They had opened, and there have been enough dry sunny days that they are drifting off to new homes! Cheri I just LOVE your Grandmother's stories for Dandelion seeds, and for Milkweed seeds, I've not heard them before. Now whenever I see my fave weed, the Dandelion, I will forever think of them as nurseries for new Fairies .. and the same for the Milkweeds!
