Description

November 11, 1918 was Armistice Day, the official end of World War I. In the USA and much of Canada this day is marked for remembering the armed forces and those who have and are serving. And a candy section of a large general store where we browsed while waiting for the parade... I saw the soldiers, men and women marching by as we on the side said "thank you". Then tonight I saw this young boy in the photo with a fantasy of candy before him. He does not know what it is to be 19 years old, not yet. I had forgotten until I saw the soldiers marching by just how young 19 truly is.

It's odd you say that. When I was 17 I remember seeing the boys just graduating from high school, going off to war in Vietnam. I thought they were so old and capable... some came home, some didn't and some came home but just weren't the boys who left. I never thought of them as young boys. They were going off to war and they were men. but now, when I see the pictures on TV of the service men in our area who are not doing back and I see they are only 19 and 20 years old, I think how young, too young...just boys... and it hurts. The difference a slight 30 or more years can make on perception...

I forgot to go downtown for the parade here.the display is so colorful, and 19 is very young.not old enough to buy liquor in Texas, but can serve and possibly die for the whims of politicians

Great shot! My wife and I loved these kinds of stores - one trip would keep us stocked in candy for months. Great capture and fond memories. Thanks

Wonderful and so colorful display of sweet things. War not candyland that is for sure. It should be an age limit when young boys can go to fight. I would vote on at least 25. They could have a bit of the life before duty calls.

Awww you captured it well, I have a photo of this same store in my gallery. We were down that way recently, we went to visit the outdoor skating rink. And stopped in here to browse, always a fun place to visit when in town. My son was home so we ended up at the Brewery and he treated us all to dinner. Hope you are well. Any recent exhibits for you??
