Description

This is a commissioned piece of player character art for a friend's Cyber knight from the Rifts Role-playing game by Palladium Books. Cyber Knights are psychic warriors who can feel the emanations of machinery. They roam a post-apocalyptic earth as knights-errant, or hospitaller knights of old, righting wrongs, fighting tyranny and protecting the weak. I figured something new out, which is always fun. The person who commissioned it wanted a flaming sword, but the flames couldn't go past the blade. I'd never done that before, so I had to invent a new special effect in postwork. I'm pretty happy with it, and hopefully so is he. This is one of those cases where I think I really nailed the description that was given to me...at least I hope so. I think that sword actually looks hotter than if I'd done it as a traditional flaming blade...looks almost like a hot brand. Enjoy, and let me know what you think.

That's a blade that doesn't cut so much as vaporize it's way through something. Interesting and very hot appearing as its light darkens all around it. Well done.

I know the guard and handle are reflecting the blade's glow, but it looks like it is equally hot as the blade. I keep envisioning the next picture being the guy hopping around, shaking his hand, and saying; "Ow! Ow! Ow!" heh!
