Description

This is a shot from the 4th of July weekend when several of us spent a day up at a friend's camping spot. It's a very ordinary woodpile, of the sort that gets burned for late night conversations and toasting marshmallows for s'mores. I am mindful of the fact that not everyone lives here, and that this might seem exotic to those of you in other climes, so I'm posting it even though I look at it and think, "ehhh ... whatever ... it's a woodpile." This is also the last shot in my "ready to post" file that isn't of Chicago, so I either need to get busy and work up a variety of images, or just bombard you with one picture after another after another of Chicago! Lord knows, I've got plenty of 'em. :D ...... Oh look! I noticed after I posted that this is image #1111 in my gallery. I could have lined some of those logs up and ... oh never mind. :P

Nice; I like the logs, but I REALLY like the ferns around them!

I noticed the 1111 even before I noticed this gorgeous image! It certainly brings back memories of fires bruning late at night, the soft humming of voices... oh, don't get me started! Wonderful image Dierbaar!!! :)

OK, so what kind of wood is that...only kidding! Image + verbal setting = comfortable evening with good friends. Excellent. By the way, you can show me Chicago day in and day out...next to none of us has seen the street scenes, the architecture, the haunts that you all haunted...it is all good.

Lovely wood pile! I like the detail of the log on top. As a kid, I never cared much for marshmellows, I still only like them very roasted or dissolved in cocoa, and s'mores always seemed a waste of good chocolate to me. My mother always kept an eagle eye on the chocolate supply when we went camping. Great capture! Congrats on 1111.

Any woodpile is a rich gift for me---I know just what you mean. As for Chicago, well, bring it on!!

Well I've seen woodpiles and ferns and trees but the way you present this image invites one to take a walk in the woods. Mmmm...I can smell the fresh air already.

I think I would have done close-ups of log ends or bark, or maybe shots of those wonderful ferns.

Ha ha - too late now! You could still get the first three 1s but making a 2 would be a bit tough! Any woodpile is a potential diamond - you just need a bit of time (a few million years) and pressure (the weight of half a mountain).

WOW! I wonder how many woodlice have scampered around under this impressive pile! Yeah, for me it IS exotic, being a Chicago-native, we don't get to see much of this kind of stuff unless we leave the city! Great light and color, and yeah, I DO find myself wondering just how many woodlice one could find in this pile, especially if there's dampness. Gorgeous work!

I can see several little splashes of fungi in there, and you HAVE got the 1111 just under the top horizontal log! What impresses me most, however, is that you have a 'ready to post' file! Gosh! that is probably a very good idea!

Lovely thought sitting round a log fire but this weather we have to make do with the log burner inside. Great picture.

A great looking wood pile and they would make an excellent 1111. Maybe there was a subliminal reason for you posting this one.

With all those cracks in the wood, it is ready to burn and the tree behind the wood pile looks like it will be next years woodpile. Wonderful perspective. Dana
