Description

'The autumnal change of our woods has not made a deep impression on our own literature yet. October has hardly tinged our poetry.' – wrote American writer Henry David Thoreau in 1862. '... When you come to observe faithfully the changes of each humblest plant, you find that each has, sooner or later, its peculiar autumnal tint; and if you undertake to make a complete list of the bright tints, it will be nearly as long as a catalogue of the plants in your vicinity.' Today 'leaf peeping' has given rise to niche tourim, especially in some regions of North America. Here in Italy it is new: in fact, even in the 19th century landscape painters of Italy were, most often than not, non-Italians, while our painters preferred to paint cityscapes and human landscapes, and only occasionally they painted the Romantic landscapes that made Italy famous. Much rooted here, on the contrary, is the tradition of mushrooming. Thank you for your kind comments.
