Description

For all those who asked. Thanks for your comments and feedback. taking it all on board i present this little baby. Yes, very heavily Gerry Anderson/Derek Meddings influence. Hope you like. Now all it needs is to be in a scene exploding as it falls down the side of a mountain... Thanks again, Richard. (3ds model of mine, textured and rendered in Bryce)

This design makes much more sense and all the additions to it work well! Nicely textured, also! Great stuff!

I may have said this before, but it's worth saying again. Your modeling skills are amazing. Derek Meddings is one my design heros. I could see this rolling around one of Anderson's sets. Would love to know the name of the program you're using to do your modeling in. Excellent work.

BRILLIANT design ! Yeah, me too worshipped the craft in the Gerry Anderson shows... Meddings, Johnson and the others had a way to construct future hardware at the verge of credibility... like a bumblebee, that couldn't fly but instead it does... May I suggest you to add a joint in the middle to "allow" the model to be more flaxible ? This way seems a little bit stiff

As geirla says, a very workable and realistic looking vehicle. I'd certainly like to add it to some of my sci-fi renders.

your cabs are always great, but the rest of the vehicle is now more harmonious and comprehensible. as it appears to be intended for flexibility, i agree with zorzim about a joint, something like the Viking the Royal Marines use, maybe.

I loved the Little Rover vehicle, and hope it shows up in the marketplace. I also LOVE your redesign of it, triangular tracks, an elongated body, and a cargo bed at the back, complete with sidewall bars. Those huge tanks in the bed are great, really examples well the payload the tractor can handle. The cool thing here I think is the design would actually allow and accommodate for the bars to be hidden, and a "Cap" added onto the cargo bed, making it more like an exploration & excursion rover tractor. Still looks like a person could do an addon trailer hitch for underneath and make some modular trailers. I'm wondering if a stationary tower crane might be useful for loading and unloading the payload of tanks there. (or any crates and palates of supply cargo). I'm not too worried about a pinch in the middle for a steering axle. Mechanically, this tractor can turn & steer just fine. Unlike most wheel based tractors, or even the big industrial front-end load tractors - Uke's, which require a central steering axle; this little rover tractor would easily operate more like a bobcat or tank. Simply, the propulsion / drive system is setup in parallel, steering is done by differentiating the speeds of the left (front and rear linked) and right (front and rear linked) side tracks, allowing for a true 360 degree turn on the spot. The tractor would need that good size of engine to house a mini reactor (insert your favorite type here), to power the 4 individual electrostatic motors, one for each track. (apologies if i got a little to carried away technically) So, as-is, I love the little rover tractor. I too will enjoy scooping it up before xmas soon as its released and can afford it. It still allows for alot of addon and expansion abilities, lots more ideas I hadn't even mentioned, combined with those from the previous little rover WIP. Whether or not Richard Jeffries has any more plans for this tractor, as in further addon accessories, its versatile design does allow for user-based additions if one is up to the modeling task. (I know I would be). Thankyou Richard for giving us sneak peaks of your work, and letting us toss our ideas and opinions. :)
