Description

A British pilot was surprised while flying a Mosquito on a reconnaissance mission over Munich on July 25, 1944. He was attacked by a strange, extremely fast aircraft with no propellers. This is it! The Messerschmidt Me 262A Schwalbe (Swallow). This was the first ever use of a jet fighter in combat. Please ZOOM... The Me 262 carried four 30mm cannons. 1400 were built but only 300 made it to combat units. This was a case of it came too late in the war...the factories could build them but ground transportation wasn't available for distribution and Germany lacked fuel, spare parts and trained pilots to get them in the air. For those who like details, Click here Bill:) I used the same general PS technique to set this photo up as I used on the Fw 190D-9 several days ago. Click Here

Great image, it's a shame a thing of beauty can be a instrument of death.

Their footprint on history is highly exaggerated...these planes, advanced for the time, yet an inevitable change, did nothing to contribute to the german effort....most were blown up on the runways....but that's a cool shot and technique.

This plane grows on me more and more each time I see it.( and I thought it was brilliant the first time I saw one )What you've done here just adds to my joy, it appears to be rolling out of the gloom..very scary.

Fast, deadly, shark like - this edited shot perfectly conveys the danger the 262 could have meant to the allied forces. Very well done.

Nice POV and lighting effects in this shot, Bill! OMG, I always dread of what would have happened if these whizzers had been around at the beginning of hostilities. The RAF and 8th Air Force would have been in for it for sure.

Fantastic capture Bill and just found out today that a B-17, B-24 & P-51 will be flying into Boca Raton, Florida January 21st - 25th. They also have a F-4, A-4, STORCH and a ME-262 waiting for FAA approval. If all seven come in, there will be some serious postings. Dana
