Description
This grand room is where Hearst's guests assembled before going to dinner. Hearst not only owned enough tapestries to drape around the top of the walls, but he also had more in storage. So he could change them when he wanted to, the ceiling can be raised or lowered to accommodate their size.

This is not like any living room I've been in! At least he had a comfy looking sofa. I've read about all the stuff he had shipped in from all over. This kind of high living is beyond my ken. Very interesting about the adjustable ceilings. Excellent color and detail on the tapestry! I'm enjoying this tour very much!

Fabulous capture of this exquisite tapestry. The amazing thing about raising and lowering the ceilings to accommodate the different size tapestries – when you walked around upstairs, you were constantly climbing up 3 steps and then down 5 etc as you went from room to room. Dana

Imagine the work that went into a tapestry that size! You'd go blind by the time you finished it. The colors still look fresh and new. Very interesting about the ceiling height. I wonder how they did it. Great shot considering you were deprived of a flash.
