Description

The day after Thanksgiving I decided to visit the San Diego Wild Animal Park to get some exercise. The park is actually about 30 miles north of San Diego just east of Escondido. It had been about two years since I'd visited the park and a lot had changed. The old lion enclosure was closed and a new Lion Country exhibit had been taken its place. This is great because the old enclosure had been a fenced-in canyon where the lions frequently weren't visible or could only be seen at a distance. The new enclosure allows visitors to get a close view of the animals both in the open and through large plexigas windows. When I took this shot I tried to avoid reflections with a polarizing filter and what I thought was careful positioning. But when I saw this image full screen I realized I hadn't done as well as I thought. I almost deleted the image, but looking at it and how the man's reflection was positioned on the animal's head the humor struck me - and the title came to mind immediately. Enjoy!

I used to turn myself inside out to try and avoid reflections but I've seen so many outstanding images here on Rendo with reflections that now I hope for them:) Your image here is an excellent example of reflections that I think add to the shot.

He He well spotted and captured my friend. I received an e-mail recently telling a story about a Lion opening a back door of a vehicle in one of our Local Nature Reserves. Scary thought if what Lions can be up to.

Wonderful. Lions have great culinary tastes, despite the fact that I could conceivably be on such a menu. Oh well. You captured this guy's casual elan and the reflection is one of those happy accidents that just makes a good photo pop in unexpected directions.
