Description

Looks better full size. When I was a teenager I read all of Asimov books. The ones about robotics particularly fascinated me. Concepts about the fuzzy border that can be established between sufficiently advanced humanoid robots and humanity are very intriguing. Books like "Bicentennial Man" or "I, Robot" are great examples of this. This week I watched "I, Robot" for the 3rd or 4th time (the movie with Will Smith). While I was watching it I was thinking what other things would those robots be capable of doing. I thought that maybe they could also play musical instruments. Then I thought about one of these robots that would gradually develop the "soul" necessary to take the musical execution one step further, towards sublime, as opposed to the others who would only play it mechanically only. That robot would be special, he might have desires for freedom to share his music with everyone and maybe his owner would have to lock him up, in a secluded place somewhere, where the owner would have the selfish privilege of being the only one listening him play, whenever he wanted. Then other thoughts also crossed my mind, like can a robot produce art? Does art exist if it's not shared? Would the robot want to play if no one was there to listen to him? Would a human feel sorry for this situation even knowing it was only a machine? Anyway, it was around these and other thoughts that this image was born. I hope you enjoy.

If a robot could create something original then your questions would be but the tip of the iceberg, another being "What is Mind?". Great concept.

Interesting questions Artur. I've read a lot of Asimovs stuff - various people have said that I Robot is nothing at all like the books so I've hesitated to watch it. I love the lighting on this render and that floor material is to die for!

Those questions make me write my story. What is a soul? A mind? What qualifies as a heart and why are emotions important to make us human? Great render. I love the tile-work.

Love the POV you chose for this - it's feels almost as if you could step right in and sit in the chair.

Cool, and sort of cruel image -- if the robot has consciousness. Very nice job on the columns.

This is an absolutely gorgeous scene, beautiful light. The Asimov robot novels & short stories are my favorites. Sorry to see the chain on your robot. I did not see the movie but have read the all the Asimov books many times. It's thoughts like yours that make for so many interesting books and short stories and art! I think Star Trek TNG did a great job with Data and his violin playing, painting, and acting. Great stuff.

Fascinating concept, and a well done pic. Personally, I think art is art as soon as it moves somebody, even if it is only the artist him/herself. For me, art is linked with emotions and the freedom to display them.
