Description

Hearst ensured that his guests had everything they needed to make their stay complete. From the gardens to the meals to Neptune’s Pool, everything was designed to be as opulent as possible. But what could the guests do if they wished to go swimming and the weather was bad? Why use the indoor pool, of course. It was design based on a Roman bath and decorated with statues of Roman gods, goddesses and heroes. Its tiles were inspired by patterns in the 5th Century Mausoleum of Galla Placidia in Ravenna, Italy. The entire room, from the bottom of the pool to the ceiling is decorated in one-inch square, glass mosaic tiles in cobalt blue and real gold. The image on the left is as you see it from the entrance while the image on the right is a closer view. The lower image is the pool bottom.

This is stunning, did they have any camera restrictions there? When I visited the Biltmore estate which is located in N. Carolina, they are no cameras allowed inside the house.

Strange idea they have about a "roman bath", and "Galla Placidia"?! His architects stoled him a lot of money!!! eheheh!!!

Wow, at first glance it looks like a Persian rug market! Stellar shots of posh decadence in this collage, Mark. Love the reflectivity, and all the photos came out swimmingly.

Wonderful capture of all this opulence. Beautiful reflections! What it must have looked like with such notables as Buster Keaton, (I love Buster Keaton), Carole Lombard, Clark Gable, Charlie Chaplin, and so many more lounging around. Terrific color and detail!

It might be opulent and decadent but I want one too!!! If that is the first view you get to see it is really inviting. I could definitely relax in that pool. I love the blue colors! In the close up, the wavy sand design around the edges is lovely. Now I have to start saving my pennies. Great shots.
