Description
And it's a battered old suitcase to a hotel someplace
And a wound that will never heal
No prima donna, the perfume is on
An old shirt that is stained with blood and whiskey
And goodnight to the street sweepers
The night watchman flame keepers and goodnight to Matilda too
Tom Traubert's Blues - Tom Waits
When its Christmas and you’re alone, this can look like your only friend.

Sometimes the bright lights only emphasize the darkness. Well done image and words.

Another side of the season. Cool effects, like the snow look down the street

love the postwork on this one.

The song fits the picture. Apart from Tom Waits one can do Charles Bukowski would also start. Both serve this scene outstanding. Class!!!

Say, glad you reminded me...that item should carry me through the lonely holidays for sure. Interesting capture, seemingly out of the 1950s with that black and white effect.

This is definitely a sad and depressing picture! That said, I love the sepia tones. Great shot!

nice postwork Mark, both the grain & the violet-like hues (which btw shine full-size), and the tilt is fitting for the image, as are your saturated whites. It's a bleached out image, a little like the feeling of being alone on the streets; and yet it's got lots of detail. And it's a real off-the-side-of-life image, possible almost anywhere in America; and the news vendor details, and broken street details, and the tilt of the cars on the left, etc etc, all add to its intense late night feeling. A fine piece of work, which, while depressing, has a life of its own. I lived in NYCity's east village an eon ago (late 60s, early 70s) in dive after dive, with artists and musicians & writers & we were surrounded by drug addicts & drunks & just souls passing through looking for some shelter; and though it was Manhattan and not this scene, the feeling was the same. Fine work all around.
