Description

Silly, I know, but that's exactly what I did. The 40th Infantry Division Band of the California National Guard, captured 10/25/09, at the 8th Annual Wings Wheels Rotors & Expo, held at the beautiful Joint Forces Training Base (JFTB) in beautiful Los Alamitos, California. They played the National Anthem at 10 AM, but other than that, all I know is that they just marched around the premises all day, with the drums being the only instruments in use for cadence. Kinda reminded me of a funeral dirge or leading a prisoner to an execution. Photo #4 shows them about to pass under the wing of a Boeing C-17 Globemaster III Heavy Transport. In photo #5, the second soldier in front of the tuba player is out of step. Bang the drums slowly. Tally-ho, and thankx for clicking on.

Isn't that strange...percussion only. If I were a brass player, I'd be begging the bandmaster to turn us loose to toot to our hearts' content. Excellent catalog of the silent marching band.

I agree it seems odd that they didn't all play while they marched around; seems like a waste of time for the non-drummers. Great shots, but I still can't like those fatigues!

That is one mighty brass instrument that the dude at the back is carrying! And to carry it and not using it must have been a pain in the neck... No pun intended! Great shots Harry! :)

He had better do a change step. When I was in Tech school, on a very cold and grey day, we were marching to class and passed another class. As they marched they were chanting the "March of the Winkies" from "The Wizard of Oz". It was very funny. I love the shadows here too. Especially # 2 and 4. Excellent shots!
